‘I’ll fight it, but I’ll let it live… where’s my dynamite?’ by Todd Slater
I somehow managed to miss this print of my Bad Dads post but the good news is Todd has them up for sale today. A 19.4 x 22.75 – 5 color silkscreen – S/N edition of 150.
The actual title of the print is: “I’ll fight it, but I’ll let it live… where’s my dynamite?” The print was commissioned for the Bad Dads: A Tribute to Wes Anderson show in San Francisco held at the LoPo Gallery. This piece is a follow up to my Rushmore print done earlier this year (same dimensions and edition). The quote at the bottom reads: “Now I’m gonna go hunt down that shark, or whatever it is… and hopefully kill it. I don’t know how yet. Maybe dynamite.”
J’ai tué le photographe at Cinéma du Parc
J’ai tué le photographe (“I Killed The Photographer”) is a movie poster exhibition taking place at Cinéma du Parc in Montreal and it will run from October 1st until the 31st.
18 prints will be shown (mostly prints from the Alamo and a few from Red Vic, Castro…most of them printed within the past two years) including three new prints created specifically for the exhibition by three artists that are well known in the poster community (the details for these new prints will be revealed on October 1st).
These new posters will first be sold at the exhibition and, a few days later, will be made available online.
Some of the artists / prints featured are Tyler Stout (Let The Right One In), David O’Daniel (Clockwork Orange), Dan McCarthy (Lost World), Tomer Hanuka (The Warriors), Olly Moss (Rocky), Todd Slater (Boogie Nights) and Dave Hunter (Black Dynamite).
As part of the exhibition is a giveaway for a set of the new prints.
It is our pleasure to offer one set of the three aforementioned new prints in a random draw amongst those who will have registered their email address on the von Scaramouche mailing list before September 30th at 11pm EST . The winner will be announced on October 1st in a blog post, along with the on sale information and the full images of these new posters.
Great Warrior by Todd Slater
Its Star Wars day at Mondo again and this time its the turn of the mighty Todd Slater. Great Warrior is a 17″ x 24″ limted edition (385) screen print signed by the artist. Printed by D&L. Available for $50, this goes up some time today.
From the first time that I saw Star Wars, I was captivated by the mystery of Yoda’s species and home world. For Yoda, Dagobah was a place to disappear, and I see him as being at one with the landscape. For this print I wanted to camouflage him as a part of this murky planet using leaves, sticks, ferns and other flora found in the swamps. The image is printed on black paper with a shiny black varnish layer in the background. The varnished layer reveals even more of Dagobah and is shown as a transparency through Yoda’s face. The kanji (japanese characters) on the left side gives one word representations of the six stages I identified in Luke’s Jedi training: the meeting of a great warrior, the discovery of a Jedi’s strength, entering of a domain of evil, learning that size matters not, seeing the future and finally, the confrontation of Vader. The screen print is seven colors, which is the most I’ve done to date.
