‘A Wretched Hive’ by Martin Ansin

A big release from Mondo lined up for tomorrow, expect this one to go fast ! Martin Ansins ‘A Wretched Hive’ is a 24″ by 36″ screen-print and comes in regular Copper version for $50 (limited to 360) and variant Metallic Silver edition for $85 (limited to 150). Up for sale sometime tomorrow.

I’ve always liked that scene in Reign Of Fire where these post-apocalyptic survivors re-enact Star Wars scenes for their children; in the future, the stories that we really like have become legends. For this poster I tried to do something similar, but in the opposite direction in time. I wanted to see how the cantina scene would look if it had been illustrated for an old book, if Star Wars was a traditional epic adventure sharing space with King Arthur and Beowulf. Who knows, maybe sometime in the future it will.”

El Topo by @martinansin

The 3 prints for the  J’ai tué le photographe exhibition at Cinéma du Parc are now up and what a great bunch of prints they are ! First up is El Topo by Martin Ansin.

Here’s a quick word from Denis Barnabe from vonscaramouche.com

For the poster exhibition “J’ai tué le photographe”, opening today October 1st at Cinéma du Parc in Montreal, three established and talented artists were commissioned to each create a poster for a film considered to be a staple in the repertoire of independent movie houses but also a film that they personally admired.  The results are works that are not only inspired but intense and, in our opinion, they respectively rank amongst Martin Ansin, Rhys Cooper and Tim Doyle’s best works so far.

And here’s a word from Martin himself.

The design of this poster is heavily influenced by the symbolism of Jodorowsky’s “El Topo”.  Behind the presentation of the characters of the film, lies a geometric arrangement that relates to the Christian and Eastern symbolism in the journey of the main character. The original inspiration for this arrangement came from totemic culture and geometric religious shapes, such as mandalas.

For instance, on this poster the five faces can resemble a Christian cross, hinted at by the lighting on Jodorowsky’s face, and relating to the downfall and “rebirth” of the main character at the end of the first half of the film. Also, the composition shows two triangles—described by the hands and bottom face, and the three top heads and hats—forming a shape similar to a unicursal hexagram, allegedly used in mythology to express the belief that one can eventually become some sort of a divine figure, a theme that runs through the film

Martin Ansin – El Topo (Regular) is 5 color screenprint measuring 24″ by 36″ inches limited to  265 copies printed on Lynx Opaque white 100lbs.

Martin Ansin – El Topo (Variant) is 5 color screenprint measuring 24″ by 36″ inches limited to  35 copies printed on Lynx Opaque white 100lbs.

The posters will go on sale at the von Scaramouche website ( http://www.vonscaramouche.com/ ) on:

October 5 at around 1pm:  10 sets of the three posters will be offered at a special reduced price.

October 6 at around 1pm:   All three posters will be offered individually

Scott Pilgrim by Martin Ansin

Sorry guys been away from the computer a while so a little late on this one. Scott Pilgrim by Martin Ansin is on sale now, only standard edition left at time of writing. Not really to my taste this one but I gotta say it blows the standard poster “art” for this film out of the water.

Mondo is very happy to announce that we have teamed up with Universal to create two special posters for Edgar Wright’s new epic, SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD!

We got Martin Ansin to put this together and, like with all of his posters, it came out awesome. If you were paying attention in the opening line, you would remember that I said that we did two posters. Well, let me be super specific and say that the second is a variant to this poster. The catch is, I won’t be showing it to you today. We will have it on sale tonight at the AIN’T IT COOL NEWS/ FANTASTIC FEST screening in Austin at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar and if you head down to Mondo, you’ll not only be able to see it, but you’ll be able to buy one and take it home with you. We printed a super limited run, so we expect them to move fast.

I won’t go too much into what Nega Scott is as it could spoil the movie for some, but if you’ve already seen the movie or read the Oni Press books, you know what’s going on with him and how cool it is. To further sweeten the deal, I took several posters over to the cast for them to sign. So, if you order a variant, you may just get a signed poster from the cast that showed up last night which included Edgar Wright, Michael Cera, Brandon Routh, Jason Schwartzman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Anna Kendrick. We know that not all of our fans are in Austin and that making it to events isn’t always (if ever) possible, so we wanted to do something special for those of you that couldn’t be there. Hope this is sufficient!
