News last night from Slashfilm of a big release day for Mondotees, with two of the big prints from this years Comic Con.

First up is the fantastic ‘The Invisible Man‘ by Kevin Tong who never fails to bring something fresh to the table.

Measuring 24″x36″ a hand numbered screen-print. Limited edition of 285.  Priced at $45.

CRAZY FOR CULT 5
Crazy for Cult happened for the fifth time at 1988 Gallery in Los Angeles and for the third time, I was part of it. This year, I contributed two prints, both which sold out at the gallery show pretty quickly.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

The print, titled ” Here’s Where I Live…Lived” is a 3 color screen print on 18 x 24 inch 100 lb cream cover paper in an edition of 60. All the prints are signed and numbered.

Being John Malkovich

The print, titled “Think What I Think, Feel What I Feel” is a 3 color screen print on 18 x 24 inch 100 lb cream cover paper in an edition of 60. All the prints are signed and numbered.

Both prints will cost $60 each and will be available in my online store at a random time on Wednesday (7/27/11). Both can be bought together as a set for $100. Limit one per household.

 

Gallery 1988′s Crazy 4 Cult 5 opened last night and in my opinion, in terms of work featured, has been the best show in the series. Prints will go up for sale at Gallery 1988 soon but in the mean time feast your eyes on these.

A new release from Mondotees tomorrow.  Kevin Tong’s print for Kim Ji-woon’s fantastic, and recently released I Saw The Devil .

Kevins work has been consistently great recently and this print is no exception.

Measuring 18″ by 24″ and a limted edition of 185. Priced at $45 keep an eye on Mondo’s Twitter feed for an announcement.

Gallery 1988 Venice recently held their tribute to the late great John Hughes, and it produced some great new prints. There are too many to list here but I’ve included some of my favorites below.

Kevin Tong just posted some close up shots of his R2 print and it looks fantastic, enjoy….

For much of yesterday (Tuesday, 11/23/10), I was practically camping near my front door, waiting for my “A Linch Pin Droid” R2D2 prints to arrive via Fedex. As soon as I got the package, I ran inside and began cutting open the box.

Opening the package was like opening Pharoh’s Sarcophagus. All packages from the printer (DNL) are like that, as they rightly should be. Cardboard, tape, bubble wrap, tape, more cardboard, more bubble wrap, more tape, then butcher paper, and finally………..THE PRINTS!

I’ve opened many packages of my prints and it is always breathtaking to see my ideas and concepts go from inhabiting my mind to inhabiting a stack of papers.

This time, the feeling was ineffable. I pulled the top one out and stood there, locked into the color, the texture, the fresh ink and cut paper smell. The moment was so beautiful, it was sickening.

Oh my god, I thought; that hairline registration, that subtle ink elevation under the trapping, the vibrant colors that mirrored exactly the color proofs I sent the printer. It was a lot like that scene in American Psycho, when Bateman realizes Paul Allen’s card is better than his own card.

My vision started blacking out and I realized I had forgotten to breathe.

Don’t just take my word for it, see for yourself, in this nifty photo slide show I put together.

I even took photos of the glow in the dark inks, but please keep in mind that I used a black light so I could photograph it. With darkness alone, only the bright green and blue lines glow. Also, remember that the border area is metallic silver, so if it looks like a color in the photos, it’s just reflecting the surroundings. With a black light, the print really comes alive, like a true Star Wars tactical display.
