‘Gallery 1988 Crazy 4 Cult Movie Art’ by Titan Books

A first for Postershizzle today, a book review !

It’s not every day you see a book about Movie Posters, and its even rarer to see a book featuring custom pieces of movie themed art –  But here it is in all its multicoloured glossy paged glory, a book based on Gallery 1988′s Crazy 4 Cult show.

For those of you that don’t know (and you should), Gallery 1988 is L.A’s (and now San Francisco’s) number one Art Gallery for Pop Culture themed art work. Having opened in 2004 they have gone from strength to strength and the Gallery sees thousands of visitors each year including some famous faces . Jessica Alba, Samuel L Jackson and Seth Rogen to name a few.

Born from an idea of Gallery owner Jensen Karp and helped along by Scott Mosier and Kevin Smith, Crazy 4 Cult was an instant success. Mr Smith it turns out, has been bugging Jensen since day one to turn the show into book form and now with help from Titan Books everyone who cant attend the shows can see the work on printed page.

Since Tom Green over at Titan books told me about the book, I’ve been waiting by the letter box for my review copy.
Like a child at Christmas I ripped it open only to see Samuel L’s angry face beaming back at me –  I knew there and then I was going to be in for a treat.

The book starts with a typically amusing intro from Kevin Smith (Yes there are dick jokes!) but then quickly moves straight on to the art. After the intro its just page after page of pure movie porn for Art collectors. Every 310 x 228 mm page oozes with glossy goodness, and the amount of work featured is incredible. For completists you get a handy little caption alongside every piece with artist information, print and movie title, size and medium of the piece in question.

Quite simply this book is a must have.  If ever there was a book for movie inspired Art collectors then this is it and should make it’s way onto the shopping list of any enthusiast, collector or film fan. This book will take pride of place on anyone’s coffee table.

I’ve included just a few of my favorite pieces in this post but trying to get a sample of 172 pages is never going to be easy.

The book is available to buy now from Titan priced £24.95, what are you waiting for ?
