Mondo Mystery, Tyler Stout Akira !

April 15, 2011

So Mondo’s Movie Mystery night in Austin debuted yesterday.  The Movie Mystery night, for those who don’t know, is a new night where the guys at Mondo pick out a beloved movie, make a poster for it and then sell the ltd editions to the people who are lucky enough to be in attendance. The movie choice and posters are top secret and aren’t unveiled until the night itself.

Imagine the excitement then when the movie in question is one of the greatest Anime ever and the man responsible for the poster is Mr Tyler Stout.  Tyler had decided that on his birthday he’d like to watch Akira in Austin and Mondo made his wish come true :-)

As you’ve already guessed Tyler nailed the print and these sold out fast. Available as a regular print and also a variant with metallic inks. For those not lucky enough to be in Austin loosen your wallets and do battle on Ebay, or for the civilised among you try Expresso Beans……

The good news is, this is just the first event of many more to come. Thumbs up Mondo.

NB: Many thanks to LLA for the close-up pics.

‘Kill Bill : The Whole Bloody Affair’ by Tyler Stout

Tyler Stout + Kill Bill = Madness ! Here’s the good word from Justin…..

About three weeks ago, we got a call from Quentin Tarantino’s team asking us if we would be interested in doing a poster for not only the first public screening of QT’s reassembled opus, KILL BILL: THE WHOLE BLOODY AFFAIR, but for a surprise at his birthday screening! Of course, we obliged and yesterday we revealed this masterful work by Tyler Stout!

I was throwing out some pretty vague hints, but after word got out that it was Tyler doing the poster, the situation got crazy outside of the theater. Fans were posting craigslist ads asking for people to go down to the theater to buy them and there were even lines outside of the theater to buy the poster running parallel to the lines to get in. Check it out….

Thanks for everyone that came out to tried to get one. We talked to some people that drove all the way from San Diego! If you didn’t snag one yesterday, don’t worry. We’ll have an online sale soon and as always, you will be notified the day before.

It was incredibly fun seeing the excitement from everyone when they realized we were in LA selling these. I love surprises and we are going to have one for our Austin fans very soon. I can’t go too much into it now, but in mid-April, we will be starting our own screening series at the Alamo called the Mondo Mystery Movie…. you will want to attend….

I’m liking a lot of the art being produced for this movie, including Jeff Proctor’s nice and gory take on ‘Hobo With a Shotgun‘ ….
